When to Seal Your Countertops

Viking Kitchen Cabinets recommends all natural stone countertops be sealed with a penetrating, water-based sealer. Our preferred products are the StoneTech sealers offered by Laticrete.

All natural stone countertops fabricated by Viking will be treated with StoneTech’s Heavy Duty sealer prior to delivery. The Heavy Duty sealer offers advanced stain and anti-microbial protection on natural stone surfaces, without affecting the visual appearance of the stone.  Providing added resistance from oil and water-based stains, the Heavy Duty sealer is a sound choice for natural stone surfaces.

We recommend that counters sealed with Heavy Duty sealer be re-sealed each year. This task can be done at home by the homeowner or a service that the experts at Viking can provide.

If you have selected a stone that has a higher porosity or you have a countertop in a high use space, you may want to consider upgrading to StoneTech BulletProof Sealer. Viking offers this sealer as an upgrade to our customers. Like the Heavy Duty sealer, BulletProof is a water-based, penetrating sealer. It offers the best protection on the market against oil and water-based stains. In addition, it is built with Microban antimicrobial protection.

BulletProof is StoneTech’s professional grade sealer, best suited to reduce the likelihood of stains on nature’s most beautiful countertop options. Our certified applicators will apply two coats during the manufacturing process. A third and final coat will be applied in your home at the time of installation. For residential projects, the Bulletproof sealer comes with a 35-year warranty and Lifetime Product Guarantee (when applied by a certified applicator on granite or marble).

If you’re unsure about which sealer is right for you, reach out to your kitchen designer to talk through your options. We cherish the opportunity to educate our clients about the selections in their home to ensure each project is built to last!
