If we could use only three words to describe this kitchen, they would be “dramatic,” “elegant,” and “sparkly.”
When we met with Donna Zamlowski to talk about the project when it was completed, she said simply: “Well, I have a new kitchen that I love!”
“We met with Roberta [Melotto] at Viking and knew immediately we wanted to work with her. She’s so knowledgeable. It was such a seamless project. It went so smoothly. She was a joy. And she did a great job!”
Donna and Roberta worked closely together on the design to achieve a perfect balance of color palette and function. The beautiful cherry wood cabinets from UltraCraft in Coastal Grey Stain is a unique color—at once sophisticated and inviting. They are a subtle backdrop to showcase views out to the garden, and to the eye-catching pendant lighting fixture above the island, which literally sparkles as a compelling centerpiece.
The cabinetry is not only beautiful, but completely functional. The full-height upper cabinets and Utility Cabinet provide invaluable extra storage space. Neatly concealed are all the mod cons, like the Lazy Susan in the corner base, pot and pan storage drawer in the island, pop-out power fixture under the counter, and the customizable under-cabinet power and lighting system from LeGrand. As Donna explains: “It’s about the little things. My pantry…the placement of my trash, my spice racks: it’s just so easy, everything flows.”
The grays of the cabinets and the soft hues of the walls are balanced by the stylish Cambria New Quay countertops. Beautiful and refined, the counters enhance the lighting and are accentuated by the tile backsplash (Arctic Storm with Pewter Permacolor grout).
The effect is to elevate the kitchen to create a perfectly inviting space. “What has surprised me is the way I feel about my home,” says Donna. “It’s changed the way we eat and interact. It’s different…it is just so accessible.”
“We’ve had parties and family over. And now it feels so open that everyone feels a part of it.”
