“It’s a really creative kitchen island design! It’s become a part of our family already…and we’re looking forward to all the great memories we’re going to be making around here together.”—Rachael Dustin
For this kitchen remodel, homeowners Rachael and Ken Dustin chose Viking Kitchens Designer Roberta Melotto because she came highly recommended by their contractor, Ryan Harger at Glenmoor Contractors, LLC.
Notes Rachael: “What’s great about Roberta is that she took our vision and what we were hoping to do and just made it so much better. Her expertise is like no other…and working with Ryan made such great team.”
Ryan agrees: “We’ve been working very closely with Roberta and Viking Kitchens. Roberta is incredible. She’s an expert: very professional, she knows her stuff.”
Ryan also adds: “It’s amazing how the final design came off the paper. Roberta came up with an incredible design and a great concept working with Rachael and Ken. My favorite part is just seeing it all coming together at the end, the cabinets, that unique island, the flooring, paint colors, everything.”
We chose Ultracraft cabinets with a Rockford door style with matching 5-piece drawer fronts. These beautifully crafted cabinets feature all plywood boxes, wood dovetails, full extension sift close drawers, and soft close hinges. The perimeter cabinets are painted in Melted Brie, and the island cabinets have a Coastal Grey finish. The countertops are a complementary Rolling Fog quartz from MSI, which is beautiful and durable enough for busy families.
Homeowner Rachael shares: “What I really loved is how practical Roberta was. She cared about the design and the look of our kitchen, but also thought about our family with two little kids, so she cared about the practicality of it. She made some amazing recommendations that we were so happy with, like the placement of certain cabinets, and also what would be so functional for us.”
The project involved removing two walls that separated the kitchen from the dining and living rooms to create an open floor plan. The space revolves around a very creative kitchen island design in the form of an L-shape, with a column added for load support. In all important aspects, the column melds into he background.
The kitchen area is now light and airy and creates extensive storage opportunities, including an asymmetrical base lazy susan in one corner, a 12″ pull out spice cabinet, large pull out pot and pan drawers in each base cabinet, and an extra deep 24″ cabinet above the refrigerator with matching side panels for a built-in look.
For Rachael, her favorite part of this kitchen is the island: “It’s a really creative kitchen island design! It’s become a part of our family already. It’s where my kids do their homework, where we gather around with our friends and have drinks and appetizers. It’s where we bake with the kids, it’s really just the center of our home now, and we’re looking forward to all the great memories we’re going to be making around here together.”
Viking kitchens and Roberta are highly recommended. We couldn’t be happier, and we’ll continue to recommend her.”
Ryan also enjoyed collaborating with Roberta on the project: “Overall, it was just an incredible experience. Roberta creates incredible designs and we look forward to working with her in the future!”
